Having recently completed an MA in Contemporary Crafts (Textiles) at the University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham, Alison Woodley is currently setting up her loom in a studio near St. Albans.
Alison is a textile designer whose work is concerned with her family tree and how our ancestors structure our identities. The visual formation of grids in modern architecture informs the replication of similar lines and right angles within her woven fabric and these signify the paths we follow through life.
This work allows Alison to explore the boundaries between art and craft, being either an art piece or a functional, contemporary quilt. The work begins with family photographs and documents such as birth certificates and family tree. These are reproduced and combined with stitching to create personalised mementos that can be framed, treasured and passed on for generations.
Alison would be happy to receive commissions and would one day like to produce a large bed-sized quilted blanket. Please feel free to contact her if you have any questions.
